Think paddle boards are for July? The quietest, most beautiful water of the year is in winter: no wake, no crowds, and a shoreline that looks like a different planet.
The board is the easy part - it is the same WheeJet you rode in August. What changes is you: a drysuit or a thick wetsuit, neoprene boots and gloves, a leash that stays on, and a paddling partner. Stick to calm, sheltered water and stay close to shore.
One thing to know about air: it shrinks when it is cold. Inflate to the pressure printed by the valve, then check it again after the first fifteen minutes on the water and top it up.
Frozen mornings, steam off the surface, and a board that rolls back into its bag when you are done. Winter is not the off-season. It is the quiet season.
